Company, Competition & STAR
Dance & Music Academy has three different programs for students that want to pursue dance more seriously.
Perform with our COMPANY
COMPANY provides higher level training and additional performance opportunities for dancers who want to dedicate their time to dance. Company at DMA is a versatile dance program focused on strong technique with foundations in classical ballet. Additional training in other disciplines such as jazz and modern/contemporary help our dancers to be well rounded.
Our mission is to train well-prepared dancers in both a nurturing and rigorous environment and to provide performance opportunities to develop artistry and confidence. Our goal is to equip students with the tools needed to continue dance in the collegiate or professional world should they so wish. We aim to develop life skills that will benefit students for years beyond their time at the studio. We value community involvement and are committed to finding ways for our dancers to serve others.
Company requires additional time and financial commitments beyond recreational dance classes. Company dancers may have time to pursue other activities, but must attend all required rehearsals and performances.
Join our COMPETITION TEAM
We believe in healthy competition that motivates dancers to train and perform at their personal best. DMA consistently wins top awards across age categories as well as special awards for concept, choreography, entertainment, and sportsmanship. Artistry, choreography, technique, age-appropriate costuming, music, movement and balanced approach. Competitive dance allows students to set goals and work hard to reach them, learn good sportsmanship, become better performers, practice grace under pressure, be inspired by others and witness growth throughout a season.
Competition requires our highest commitment of time and finances. Only those dancers who are certain that they want to dedicate themselves to competition should audition, so as not to take a spot that could be given to another dancer. Competition dancers must choose dance as a priority over other extracurricular and social activities.
Be A STAR
DMA’s STAR program is an accelerated program for dancers in 1st-5th grade. It is designed for students with prior dance experience that demonstrate the focus and facility to progress at a faster pace. Following the Star Placement class, families will be advised if the Star program or Primary level class would be the best fit for their dancer next season.
STAR program dancers must take 2 required classes per week (1 ballet and 1 jazz) and participate in our production of The Nutcracker. There are select weekend rehearsals for The Nutcracker in the fall.
